Birko’s New, PAA Antimicrobial Intervention

Overview:

Due to a recent court decision reversal patents for PAA-based products for food plant applications have been reevaluated and Birko is now able to present PAA to meat processors for the control of bacteria, specifically E. coli 0157:H7. PAA is a very helpful product for use in complying with FSIS E. coli-related further processing notices.

The product we selected for the Birko line is BlitzT.M. from FMC Corporation. FMC has been a pioneer and leader in the production of PAA and offers an exceptionally pure, stabilized form for use in federally-inspected meat and poultry plants under the trade name BlitzT.M.. Birko believes in a multiple-hurdle approach to keeping E. coli and other problem pathogens from entering and residing in meat production facilities. PAA is yet another useful tool we can now offer our customers to do this job – one of many products and procedures that Birko offers to keep E. coli in check. We are pleased to add this sustainability-friendly product to our product
line.

PAA has a very favorable cost-per-application compared to other intervention chemicals. PAA also demonstrates a strong speed-to-kill advantage over many other interventions and is recommended for use on product going to immediate further processing. When both cost and efficacy are viewed as equally important BlitzT.M. PAA is a clear choice.

BlitzT.M. is easily applied to product on a further processing production line using a Chad Conveyorized Antimicrobial Spray Cabinet. Birko has worked closely with Chad on the development and refinement of this equipment and refitment of the internal sprayer to apply Lactic Acid, our own Beefxide® antimicrobial intervention and our new PAA offering – BlitzT.M.. Worker safety is a priority at Birko. Because of issues related to the safe use of this product the Birko Equipment Division will assist plant maintenance in the engineering, and installation as needed, of semi-custom BlitzT.M.. application systems.

While the usefulness of PAA is widely acknowledged as a fast-acting antimicrobial with no residual Birko will provide sufficient samples, at Birko expense, to validate the use of BlitzT.M. at your plant under your specific working conditions.
